Can I use my old iPhone4 as a iPod?

I have an iPhone4 Model MD439LL/A, iOS Version 7.1.2 (11D257). I would like to use it like an iPod. It tries to "phone home" to iCloud but apparently you can not do two-factor verification. I put it on Airplane Mode so isn't constantly doing that. If I turn off two-factor verification can I turn off Airplane Mode and use wifi and Bluetooth? I BOUGHT this small computer, I would like to be able to use it and not throw it away.

iPhone 4, iOS 7.1.2

To get started using an old iPhone as an iPod Touch, insert a SIM card into thephone — be sure the card is from the same wireless carrier that the phone uses. Connect the iPhone to an Internet-enabled computer with iTunes. The program willactivate the iPhone, letting you use it as an iPod Touch.

Do you mean, replace the current SIM card with a new one? What about it trying to connect to iCloud? Shouldn't two-factor authentication be turned off?
