You can't.
iChat was the app on the Mac before Messages came along.
The first iChat was in in OS X 10.2
It could text chat to AIM users and to other Mac using Bonjour.
Version 2 was a download and could do Video (and Audio)
iChat 3 added Jabber abilities. (it could be made to join GoogleTalk)
iChat 4 added a Google Talk option to get around the naming convention for Jabber servers that Google effectively ignored.
It also brought 4 way Video chats (10 way Audio)
At iChat 6 Yahoo was added.
At OS X 10.8 Messages started but was number following on from iChat becoming version 7
Effectively an iMessages Account was shoe-horned into iChat.
Messages on an iPhone had already begun by then and at iOS 8 and OS X 10.8 there was the start of linking the to.
