Once you've done the steps in How to block pop-ups in Safari - Apple Support there's not much else other than what was mentioned above for workarounds. For a particularly pernicious popup that doesn't go away even after those steps the worst I've ever had to do is add the extra step of restarting the phone(only slide to power off unless the phone is frozen) before starting safari again.
Apple Intelligence is now available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac!

It's spam. Close down your browser (close the window, then double-click the Home key and swipe up on the thumbnail to completely shut it down), clear the Website & History Data under Settings>Safari. Be more wary of the websites you visit.
Best of luck,

You are most welcome. I don't use my phone for much more than photos and Words with Friends, but I do look at the news in the morning, and that is when I got my first "Amazon" one. Annoying..... 🙄
Cheers,
