How do I update my iPod 6th generation from iOS 9.3.5 to iOS 10.0

Regarding the point made here by others, regarding which generation Touch you have:

The 5th gen Touch has a Lanyard Loop pop-out button in the lower left corner on the back face:

The 6th gen Touch does not have this pop-out button:

Otherwise, they appear identical and the 6th gen fits into a 5th gen case.

It means that there is no update for your model, even if there is a later version of the software.

For example, my 2nd generation Touch will get back the message saying "your iPod's software is up to date", even though that has a very old version installed. (It's on iOS 4.2.1.) That's because it is the latest version of iOS that can be installed on my iPod, even though there are later versions.

Have you checked the back of your iPod for the loop button, as I have suggested?

Use the Software Update function or iTunes on a computer to update it to 11.2.6.

If you have a fifth generation model instead of a sixth, you can't.
