Messages app on High Sierra makes new messages appear at top instead of bottom

Since upgrading to OSX 10.13.3 my messages in the Messages app are appearing out of order. If I post a new message, it appears above all the old ones and is sometimes missed by the person I'm sending them to. Is there a fix for this? Seems to work fine on my iPhone. Often the messages have a ! saying they haven't been sent, but I see them there on my phone when i check it. Is there a problem with the Messages app on OSX?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, macOS High Sierra (10.13.3)

Hi,

View Menu.

Change the Sort option to Date if it is not already.

If it is on Date then Set it to Manual then Quit the App and then Change it back after restarting the app.
