Domain Name Setting AirPort Extreme

User uploaded file Hi All - I've noticed that my ISP placed a search domain of sc.rr.com when using their internet. This causes hijacking of my devices sometimes when i'm browsing the internet and they spam ad's at me. It's very disconcerting.

To get around it I've set all my DNS IP's to Google for now AS WELL as changed the Domain Name setting in my Airport Extreme. Will this cause any issues for my network security wise and help me get around the issue? Just want to make sure I don't need to take additional actions.

Thanks!

No, changing your preferred default DNS servers, will not affect security and can potentially enhance it with some of the better known DNS service providers. FWIW, I use OpenDNS over my ISP's DNS servers for this exact reason.

You can also leave the Domain Name field blank for your AirPort Extreme base station with no ill effects.
