Your computer guy doesn't know what he is talking about. There are no Anti-virus software packages out there that will not screw up your Mac, generate false alarms about things that do not exist, and generally cause havoc with your machine.

Absolutely not. Not on a Mac. If you install third party anti virus software on a Mac, it will slow your Mac down significantly.

No. Browse wisely and you will be fine. Never accept a pop up invitation of any kind to clean your Mac.
