Does Apple send out receipts for app purchases?

I have recently purchased an app via credit card and received a "receipt" yesterday for it but there was no verification shield that usually accompanies an email from Apple. When I hovered over the sender it showed up as no_reply@email.apple.com. Problem is I didn't make that purchase on the date specified. I hesitate to click on it to read the entire message. What worries me is my credit card safety. Is this a valid message?

mmlevasseur,

According to: Identify legitimate emails from the App Store or iTunes Store - Apple Support

"If you receive an email about an App Store or iTunes Store purchase, and you’re not sure whether it is real, you can look for a couple of things that can help confirm that the message is from Apple.

Genuine purchase receipts—from purchases in the App Store, iTunes Store, iBooks Store, or Apple Music—include your current billing address, which scammers are unlikely to have. You can also review your App Store, iTunes Store, iBooks Store, or Apple Music purchase history.

Emails about your App Store, iTunes Store, iBooks Store, or Apple Music purchases will never ask you to provide this information over email:

  • Social Security Number
  • Mother's maiden name
  • Full credit card number
  • Credit card CCV code

Learn more about phishing and other scams."

mmlevasseur,

You are welcome. It never hurts to be cautious. I have noticed that the purchase date varies between the actual date and the charged date.

Be sure to read these two links from the referenced article:

1. See your purchase history in the App Store or iTunes Store - Apple Support

2. Avoid phishing emails, fake 'virus' alerts, phony support calls, and other scams - Apple Support

Thank you for the quick answer. I do see my current address but I fail to understand why scammers would find it difficult to have this information. I would think it would be easily done. I will keep an eye out on my credit card transactions to be on the safe side. The issue arose from the wrong date listed and like I said, I hesitate to click on it without that verification. I'd really like to know why it - and indeed this reply- didn't have that verification. I'd rest easier if I knew that and why the date of purchase is wrong.

Thanks for the help
