I'm using logic on a MacBook air, fast but not enough free disc space for full content, is there No way I can download full content to a external drive?

Yes. You can use symbolic links to install into an external unit instead.

One caveat is that you still have to download the installers to your main system drive so I would encourage you to do this ins steps instead of downloading all the content at once, even if it is a possibility.
