unable to delete songs in iTunes.

Hello.

Recently I imported a few gigs of music to my library from an external hardddrive. I noticed that some of the tracks duplicated, so I attempted to get rid of them. Couldn't.

No matter what I tried, they would not delete. Dragging to the trash, selecting a song and pressing the delete key, selecting and going through the edit menu, and even going in and manually deleting the tracks from my music folder were unsuccessful (tracks now unplayable, though).

Fed up, I deleted all the music from my last importing session from both harddrives and deleted iTunes. I reinstalled and launched the program, only to find that the songs are still there.

What's going on and what can be done?

in iTunes, removing a song from a playlist, removing from your library, and deleting from your hard drive are 3 different things.

When you say "the songs are still there" even though you removed them from your hard drive, I assume you mean they still have entries in your library (i.e. in iTunes the view you are looking at has "Music" highlighted on the left side)?

If so, then just delete them from the library by right-click and "Delete."

Tried that, too. Deleting wasn't an option.

Are you working in a PL view or the main iTunes window view from the Library?

Deleting within a PL will remove the tune from the regular PL - not a Smart PL.

Deleting from the main iTunes Library view should remove and delete that tune from the Libray and HD if you select the correct option from the dialog box that comes up.

Try repairing permissions with Disk Utility.

I seem to be having the same problem. When I try to delete an item it seems frozen. The items I am trying to delete also seem to be on a second page. I go to Limewire and open my music under the Library. When I double click on the limewire tunes, the first page seems blank but if I double click the second page has three songs on it. However, I cannot manipulate them. I can't drop them into my iPod, I can't delete them. Nothing!! Can anyone help???
