As you didn't buy it with the phone, are you aware that you only have 60 days from the purchase date to do it. You could use a credit card as an a option.

No. Apple care + must be paid for outright.
The phone itself can be bought over a 20 month period ... but that agreement, is not allowed to include Apple care +.

You can pay on a credit card if you have one but not monthly.
