Headphone adapter suddenly not working

We have a number of headphones and lightning to mini-jack adapters which work in EVERY COMBINATION on an old iPhone 5 we use only for music. After updating to the latest IOS version, my new iPhone 8 Plus won't recognize headphones using any combination of adapters.

My wife's iPhone 7 is having the exact same trouble. Headphones using adapters used to work and now suddenly they do not.

Should we return our phones for new ones, or is this a change in the OS to try to fleece more money by fouling 3rd party adapters? The ones we purchased all said they were Apple Certified.

Yes, and they probably would except they fall out when running and I can't use them. I have Bose earbuds which are shaped to prevent them from falling out. These were working just great until we updated iOS on our iPhones. Now all the lightning-to-3.5mm adapters we've purchased (Apple Certified) a few months ago don't work.

We borrowed an Apple lightning-to-3.5mm adapter from a friend and my Bose earbuds work just fine with it on both our iPhones.

The change in iOS is clearly a ploy by Apple to ensure firms making the less expensive 3rd party adapters don't rob them of profits, but this is done at their users expense. This will be the last of the iPhones for us. Never again.

So are the Powerbeats 3 and some other BT headphones, including a new one from Bose.

If the adapters you purchase were official MFi and they are not working then you need to contact the company that you purchased them from. They should work. But there are some companies that print on their box that they are Apple certified when in fact they are not. They are counterfeit. Apple isn't going to help counterfeiters.

Enjoy whatever phone you decide to buy.
