glossy screen?

Hello.

Does anyone know how I can check my MBP has a glossy screen or matt screen?
The box is not saying glossy, but it seems very bright and when I registered applecare, it was saying glossy...I'm confused...

Please give me some advice...

Thank you!

MBP, Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Did you order the glossy screen? I've been told by Apple that the only way to get glossy screens is to actually order it as a custom order. If you got it from an Applecentre they apparently only have the matte screens in stock.
As far as I can tell, the glossy screens have a smoother (mirror-like) finish than the matte (grainier finish) screens.

The Apple Stores do have the Glossy in stock. I walked into the store last weekend and walked out with one. They just have the matted on the floor, I'm assuming because of all the lighting and glare.

If you have a glossy screen, you'll know it. Is it glass, or does it look like a plastic texture? It will not say on the box, it is either in the model or serial number.

Travis Leclair and Leo J, thank you for your advice!

I bought the old MBP last week in my university with a special price but I didn't do any custum order...(also, they told me that it is matt screen...)

But when I registered applecare with my serial number, it is saying glossy...
I heard that in aother university the glossy ones were sold with the special price as well...so they might have mixed...

Since it is an old MBP with a special price, my university store doesn't have it anymore...
Do you think I can exchange with the matt one in the apple store?
This glossy one makes my eyes tired easily, since I use it for text work and programming...

Thank you!

You won't be able to exchange it at an Apple Stire, that I know. I am almost certain you wouldn't be able to even if you paid the restocking fee. The university stores are a whole different thing. You are stuck, unless you sell it on ebay or something which I figure you wouldnt do to bad if you got a student discount to begin with.

For what its worth, I'm a student and I just got the glossy screen and couldn't be happier. The colors look fantastic, but then again, it is all personal preference. Try playing with it at different brightness levels, it might just take some time to get use to.

Hmmm, it must just be the Australian Applecentres then. Cause I was going to order the glossy screen, but would have had to wait for it because it was a custom order.

Thank you for the information. As you advised me, I'm using it with changing the brightness...it is better...

You can definitely tell if yours is a glossy screen by checking to see if you >can see reflections on the screen.

Could you give me sone examples how I can check this...(angle, outside use etc...)

Thank you!
