Battery usage and standby indicators .....wrong data

Do "battery usage" and "Standby usage" indicate the right information ?

For a little while now i am trying to understand how iPhone's battery gets drained on my iPhone. I keep updating my 6s to the latest software. At apple store, they inform me that my battery has 88% of charging capacity....yet it gets drained quickly....why ?

I thought i would be able to answer the simple question: how long my battery last since I fully charge it ?

You can have this value out of your iPhone: Under Settings -> Battery -> Time since last full charge

Add Usage to Standby and you have the answer.....

In my case, it clearly shows: 12h45 min (Usage = 2h2min Standby = 10h43 min)

But it's impossible: I charged it 10hr13 min ago...

Are you getting such misleading information as well ?

When you look at this, the Standby time is the total time since the last charge. The usage time is the amount of usage since the charge. You don't add the two of them together to get a total. The best way to try and diagnose battery issues is to look at your individual app battery percentages and troubleshoot from there. See this, About the battery usage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support, there is also a link for another document on maximizing battery on the device.

If that's what "Apple" told you, whoever you spoke to was wrong. Standby time is total time since the last full charge; essentially, the total time the phone has been in use. Usage time is time used by whatever you were doing. the labels are confusing, I'll admit. But it's just a label problem, not a definition of how it's measured.

As an example, an indication of a runaway app is that Standby and Usage will be the same. Try ChrisJ's experiment and you will see the same thing he does.

I've never had to take the time to study the time that closely on my iPhone. Once I disconnect my phone from the charger, I use it all day and then at the end of the day, connect it to the charger again. I've not experienced a problem that requires me to micromanage the standby and usage times. Again, if you are experiencing battery issues, you need to study what I mentioned earlier. If you truly feel there is something wrong with the reporting of your usage times, then you have the option to restore your device to your latest backup and see what happens. If that does not help, then restore to factory and set it up as new, then test for a period of time and compare. You also have the option to make a Genius Bar appointment and have Apple examine your device.

I did all that...

- First thought a misinterpretation of indicators ==> confirmed with apple that I need to add both values

- Apple has said my battery is good

- Second: did a restore of my latest backup...issue remains

- Third: reset to factory (yesterday)....issue remains

it is absolutely not a pleasure to go as far as micromanaging because answers are just not clear...

you know, it is part of the user experience to notice anomalies with your devices. They are so integrated in our lives that we can easily tell when something goes suddenly wrong. We obviously cannot tell why, and it ain't easy..

All we can so far is asking the question, which in turns helps Apple at the end.

The few times that I have ever looked at battery usage statistics when attempting to answer questions here, I have really just made sure that the two numbers are different. If they are the same, it indicates a problem. I'm at home now working on my devices and my phone is still plugged in by the computer here, so I cannot tell. I'm going to unplug it at the top of the hour and work a while and see what happens. I guess my question would be, are you concerned about battery drainage, which is what appeared to be what you were originally trying to diagnose, or is it the differences in the usage and standby adding up? I'll be able to post stats a little later from my usages, but that will require me to use the phone more than I am using the computer here too.

Okay, I took the time to disconnect my iPhone at the top of the hour, and it is 16 minutes past. I used it for a few minutes with Mail, Twitter, and the Weather app. I then locked the device and set it down. My usage statistics reflect what I originally told you. The standby time is 16 minutes, and the usage time is 7 minutes. So the phone has been on and disconnected from power for 16 minutes, but has been used for 7, which reflects what my usage was. I still believe my description was correct earlier about the usage times, but I've reached out to someone I know here that is much better versed in batteries when it comes to the iPhone. I'll see if he will look at this and respond.
