Finall found the solution that works for me -you might want to try it
Click on the progress circle and the progress bar will appear, click on the X and that will cancel the process.

Thanks so much! Although my original problem somehow is not showing up in the question.... was my issue of having no x to click… I found a solution and posted it but for some reason it’s not here but anyway the solution was that my exports were getting stuck in .....like limbo ....and there was no option to x out. So, I had to make a complete copy of the movie and then delete the original one from the theater section so imovie would have nothing to continue to try to export .... and I could start over fresh with the new copy..... it worked and then the x showed up. although at that point I didn’t need to quit share anymore. anyway thanks for your reply !!!!!!!
