Safari on iMac: no titles on browser tabs and missing URL in address bar

This problem started occurring a few days ago. I have an iMac and I am running Safari Version 11.0 (12604.1.38.1.7) on OS Sierra 10.12.6 (16G29).

1) There are suddenly no titles on my browser tabs (see image).

And 2) When I start a new tab, the page loads and appears fine, but the address bar shows "about: blank" OR it really is just empty, instead of an address. This is an issue for me because I hyperlink and copy addresses all day long for work. Sometimes the URL will show up a minute or two later.
