How to disable Touch ID for retrieving passwords in Safari

i enabled Touch ID for retrieving passwords in Settings from Safari, but sometimes I doesn’t work. When touch ID fails to unlock the iPad, I have the option of simply entering my passcode. Is there a way to do the same for retrieving passwords in Settings for Safari websites?

iPad 2 Wi-Fi, iOS 11.2.6

It all depends on how one interprets "the same" above. Here are the two possible interpretations I see:

  • If Touch ID fails, may I simply use my iPad passcode to retrieve a Safari website password? Answer: No.
  • If Touch ID fails, may I simply type and use the Safari website's password to enter the site? Answer: Yes.

My problem is that if I can’t remember the password to a particular site and want to look it up by going to Settings, Touch ID and Passcode, and then Passwords, I can use only my Touch ID to retrieve the password(s) I forgot. And as it sometimes happens, the Touch ID doesn’t work, so since I don’t have the option of entering my Apple ID password, i’m out of luck. I can use either Touch ID or my Apple ID password to unlock my device, and I was asking if there’s a way to set up the list of passwords in Settings so that I could retrieve them either way. if I could remember the website’s password, this would not be a problem.
