Mouse pointer hidden on rotated display after 10.13.4 upgrade

I just upgraded my MBP to 10.13.4, but I noticed my mouse pointer was not visible on a 90' rotated external display I run. I tried rebooting, PRAM, SMC, etc. resets, all the normal stuff, but it wouldn't help.

I confirmed that if I change the rotation on this display back to 0', the normal sized mouse pointer is indeed visible as expected

As a workaround, I discovered I can see the mouse pointer on my rotated display if I go to System Preferences -> Accessibility -> Display and set the Cursor size to the first mark above 'Normal'.

I'm posting this here for anyone else with the same issue to find the workaround and for Apple to notice and hopefully patch in the next release.

FTR, I contacted Apple support and they directed me to Product feedback: https://www.apple.com/feedback/macos.html

If this is serious enough to affect you negatively, I'd suggest also submitting feedback there.

Same problem here. 13" MBP with TouchBar, 2 external monitors hooked up with USB-C to DisplayPort cable. The one that is rotated 90 degrees looses it's cursor. Making it larger in Accessibility only partially fixes the issue, but doesn't work for most editors.

I've left feedback here: Feedback - macOS - Apple

Maybe more feedback there will help elevate this bug.

Update :

As OP said, the workaround is partial due to the pointer still disappearing while hovering over search boxes, terminal windows, text editors, code blocks on forums etc. My guess is that it's due to the pointer automatically resizing while hovering over those items. Especially as a dev, this is really getting in the way! Apple, please fix this issue! To add, the display is connected via an USB-C to HDMI cable.

It looks like Apple broke several things in 10.13.4 related to secondary displays. Most notable is Duet Display, which got some press attention (really the only thing Apple cares about). Here's to hoping that fixing Duet Display fixes this underlying issue as well.

Totally agree this is beginning to irritate me.

Apple come on! You have not had MANY weeks to get this fixed. Your Mac Books are not cheap in any way, shape or form and this renders the Mac much less useful for such as coding use cases. This really needs to be addressed ASAP, as it is super annoying!!!

Hi, Apple support contacted me recently regarding this issue. After many tests and reports, they confirmed that this is an OS issue and that they are aware of it and are working on it...we now have to wait for a High Sierra update then (they weren't able to give an ETA though).

They broke it with the latest update. Since updating my os my cursor disappears on my 90 deg rotated screen aswell.

Very annoying! The workaround I tried was increasing the cursor size (as already mentioned by other users this doesn't fix the problem because the cursor still disappears when working with the terminal). Is there a way to rollback to an older os version? I don't know if this issue is big enough for apple to even try to fix it (since they actually don't even support dual display setups if I'm correct?).

Can someone from Apple comment on this issue and give ETA of the fix? This is almost for 3 weeks here and no reaction from the company side. Yesterday I had a chat with some 'genious' from support and they asked what type of HDMI->USB-C cable am I using trying to pretend to be non-software issue which is clearly the case.

The issue is really annoying and bad user experience especially for developers who use vertical orientation in the daily routine for code editors!

I still get the issue on 10.13.5—I'm using an ultrawide monitor (DELL U3818DW), no screen rotation.

I've actually seen this issue for a long long time whenever using multiple monitors. Kinda ridiculous bug, seems like a pretty basic thing to be able to see the mouse cursor!
