does numbers have a data analysis for descriptive statistics like excel does?a

I’m take a statistics class and the professor is having everyone use the descriptive statistics function within the data analysis adding in excel. I know i can insert the functions individually in numbers but it’s very time consuming. Does numbers offer the same thing, or should i just get excel for home use

If most of the students in your class are using the Excel Add-in and the professor expects that, you'd best get Excel, unless you have a lot of time to figure out how to replicate the functionality in Numbers and enjoy that sort of thing. Excel works well on the Mac.

I am familiar with the Add-in you are referring to and I would strongly recommend you bite the bullet and get the same version of excel as the other students and use the add-in. the last thing you want is for your home grown solution to have an error or bug in a single formula and it affect your grade.

you will get no mercy from the instructor if the mistake is in your choice to not use the recommended tools.

Reminds me of a robotics course I took where the professor wanted us to use Matlab to design an adaptive control system. I instead designed the whole thing as a computer program using Apple Pascal on my Mac Plus. I learned a lot and he was impressed and he talked about that paper for 20 years (I stayed associated with the school long after graduation). I doubt anyone even knows Pascal anymore.

But, seriously, if your professor is using Excel and specific functions that are part of Excel or an Excel package, get Microsoft Office and use Excel.
