Can't lower pitch

When I select a region or track, the Pitch Correction slider is all the way to the left with the value at zero.

How do I REDUCE pitch, if I cannot slide it to the left.

To tell you the truth, I experimented with raising pitch, and that doesn't seem to do anything. What am I missing?

When you add an Au Pitch filter to the track in the Smart controls, you callower or raise the pitch in cents. 100 cents would be a semitone step.

Click an empty spot in the "Plug-ins" section to add the filter.

For vocals, you could also use a Vocal Transformer plugin or the Pitch Shifter:

What kind of audio regions are in the track? The pitch correction slider does not work on audio files you import, only on audio you record directly into an audio track. The pitch correction will adjust each note separately to bring it closer to the notes of the scale. It will not raise or lower all notes in the same way.

To power the pitch of the complete track use the AuPitch filter (in GarageBand '11) or an Pitch Shifter filter in GarageBand 10.2.

Which version of GarageBand are you using?

Thanks so much, leonie. I will take your advice.

I am using 10.2.0.

On this subject, the Apple GarageBand Help (online, from menu) says clearly that one can correct "regions." Between that Help, and the lame official Apple Training Series book I bought, I have gotten a lot of bum information. (Also, the illustrations in the book are reproduced so dark that one can barely, or not at all, make out what they are supposedly showing.

Thanks again. Any additional info would be welcome, if my version of GB warrants it. Have a great day!

Okay, now I understand better what "pitch correction" means here. But what I don't get about that slider is the fact that even though the instructions say slide left to lower pitch, you can't slide left; the slider comes up with the value at 0 and the slider all the way to the left. As I move it right, I can see it changes to increasing plus values. But how does one get minus values?

The pitch correction slider does not shift all notes by the same amount and by the same direction. It does not work on polyphonic audio. It is meant for monophonic audio, vocals for example, where you might not hit the notes exactly. Then pitch correction will move each note towards the closest exact note. Some notes will be raised, some notes will be lowered.

And the slider will determine, if the correction will be perfect 100% or less rigid.
