Capturing video from Sony Mini DV Handycam

I can't get my computer to recognize my camcorder. The camcorder is in its dock, I have a firewire connected to my computer. I have iMovie on and the little switch on it is set to the little movie camera and not the scissors. I switched my camcorder to USB Stream mode and it is on play/edit mode. I have a Sony MiniDV Handycam model DCR-HC32. I am stuck and don't know what to do next to start capturing the video on my camcorder to iMovie. There is no other option on the drop down menu except iSight. Any suggestions?
