Macbook pro 2011 very slow

My Macbook Pro 2011, is failing to do basic things. I've used it for years without a problem, but now it fails or simply freezes while trying to open apps (Microsoft Office, Safari, Mail, Photos, etc..). It is very slow, if someone could help me find a fix.. Thank you

MacOS will install in as little as 2GB or RAM.

If you want it to run appropriately fast, that will cost under US$50 to replace one 2GB DIMM with one 4GB DIMM.

Otherwise, it will run the way it is running now until you replace it.

EtreCheck; as it won't let me edit my own post, I'm posting it down here.

Thanks for helping me.

malwareBytes is excellent at spotting malware on your Mac when it is run ONCE. But you should NOT allow it to waste system resources by scanning all the time. That is a waste of your scarce resources.

You are running MacOS later than ElCapitan. This requires more than 4GB of RAM for appropriately responsive operation, but you have only 4GB. This is not enough. You are stuck in a Rut, simulating the additional required RAM on your slow Rotating magnetic Drive. Getting to the next increment of real RAM will improve performance dramatically, and adding even more will improve performance some more, but far more modestly (unless you edit Photos or Videos).

Re-Set GateKeeper to "Mac App Store and approved developers", or you are INVITING Malware onto your Mac.

More than anything, you urgently need a Trusted Backup. "Any drive can fail at any time".

Apr 1, 2018 12:31 PM in response to Grant Bennet-Alder

If you are using another backup method that you prefer, that is great. If not, you need to take steps to acquire an external drive as soon as possible. If you buy one, a drive 2 to 3 times or larger that your boot drive is preferable for long term trouble-free operation. Do not pay extra for a drive that is fast. (You can get by for a while with a "found" smaller drive if necessary, but it will eventually become annoying).

Attach your external drive and use

System preferences > Time machine ...

... to turn on Time Machine. It may ask to initialize the new drive, and that is as expected.

Time Machine will then spend all afternoon making your first full backup. You can continue to do your regular work while it does this. The first Full Backup is by far the biggest backup. After that, it will work quietly and automatically in the background, without interrupting your regular work, and only save the incremental changes.

Time machine's "claim to fame" is that it is the backup that gets done, because it does not ruin performance of the rest of the computer while doing its backup operations. When you need it, it is much more likely to be there.

Will do, I downloaded it when everything started malfunctioning. I uninstalled it here's the report;
