After today's Sierra update I am having problems with Photos. Edits aren't being saved, photos are not visible in upload tools for Wix and Twitter and exporting a photo to the desktop is taking ages although I see it has appeared.

Is your Photos Library still enabled as the System Photo Library? Check the Photos Preferences > General > Use as System Photo Library. This option should be grayed out.
Where is your Photos Library stored? On an external drive or on the internal drive of your MacBook?

There has been no Sierra update for a long time - are you talking about a High Sierra Update form 10.13.3 to 10.13.4 a few days ago?

That option is greyed out. I use iCloud and two macBooks so I am not sure where the pictures actually are. I was getting very frustrated trying to use the useless brush tool for painting out background items I don't want in photos.

I meant High Sierra. I call High Sierra, Sierra now for short. I downloaded and installed the updates last night hours after posting my query here. Would the updates have caused problems "in the background" before I clicked on "download and install"? I didn't realise.
