Purchasing a used iPhone 6s Plus. what all should I check before buying?

This will be my first Apple purchase ever so I'm a newby here. I'm purchasing a used iPhone 6s Plus. Needs Unlocked checking and the IMEI. What else should I check before actually purchasing it? Specifically want to know how can check IMEI number before purchasing to identify genuine iPhone 6s Plus.

The Activation Lock. That's reason to not even have purchased it unless original legal

owner has removed that and then set up the iPhone for a new user before selling.
