Screen recording audio not working

Hello Apple, i want to ask about the screen recording feature for iPhone 5S.

IOS: 11.3 (last updated on 03/04/2018)

Storage: 64GB

I always use the screen recording feature to record important stuff. But after I've updated my iPhone 5S to IOS 11.3 this morning, when I screen record, there's no sound coming out.

I already tried all these:

- screen recording with earphone on & off. When i recorded the music with earphones, the sound was automatically muted & came back on when i stopped recording

- switched on the Microphone Audio on the Control Centre

- restarted my iPhone after switching on the Microphone Audio

- reset all settings

Can you please help me solve this problem?

Hello kamallia,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!

I understand from your post that you have not been able to record audio while using the Screen Recording feature. Because the screen recording is built in to the iPhone software backing up and reinstalling the software may help in a situation like this. The following article has the steps on how to backup your iPhone:

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

By using the steps as listed from the following article you can reinstall the software on your iPhone:
If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Put your device in recovery mode and set it up again

  1. Make sure that you're using the latest version of iTunes.
  2. If iTunes is already open, close it. Connect your device to your computer and open iTunes. If you don't have a computer, borrow one from a friend or go to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider for help.
  3. While your device is connected, force restart it with these steps:
    • On an iPhone 6s and earlier, iPad, or iPod touch: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. Don't release the buttons when you see the Apple logo. Keep holding both buttons until you see the recovery mode screen.
    • On an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Volume Down buttons at the same time. Don't release the buttons when you see the Apple logo. Keep holding both buttons until you see the recovery mode screen.
  4. When you see the option to Restore or Update, choose Update. iTunes will try to reinstall iOS without erasing your data. Wait while iTunes downloads the software for your device. If the download takes more than 15 minutes and your device exits recovery mode, let the download finish, then repeat these steps.
  5. After the Update or Restore completes, set up your device.
Best Regards.

Hello MoonJ.

Thank you for your tips. However i did all the steps too & it still didn't work. I even reset my iPhone twice.

Another problem happened this time 😢 I can't even sync some of the songs from iTunes to my iPhone. I already updated iTunes before i updated my iPhone & these happened:

1) iTunes can't sync some of my songs because the the file was missing (i triple checked all my folders & all my songs were there.. so i'm not sure what does this means)

2) I tried moving 1 song to the desktop, change the song's properties, delete the song from the iTunes list, paste the song back to the folder, add it back to iTunes & sync to my iPhone but it also didn't work.

I went to the shop that i bought my iPhone from & they said wait for the next update (ios 11.4) & see if the problem still happens.

Thank you once again for your tips. Hope it helps others too 🙂
