One thing that seems to help is to uninstall Office for Mac and then re-install it. This will require the security codes MS supplies so you will need those, however that should work. If it does not then contact MS support or possibly consider upgrading to a more up-to-date version of Office for Mac.

You may want to try resetting the NVRAM per the directions in How to reset NVRAM on your Mac - Apple Support and if that does not work restart in Safe Mode per Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac - Apple Support.
If neither reset works the uninstall Office as I mentioned earlier and reinstall it.
