What is airportd?

Airportd is listed as "always allow" under Wi-Fi Access Control, along with Airport. Just want to understand their functions before I remove from "always allow".

It's part of the of software (daemon) that links with the Airport device. Leave it as is.

Airport Utility unable to connect to any airport device My airport express and extreme have been running fine for two years but I found that Airport Utility apps (on mac and iPhone both) are unable to discover the airport devices. I want to use it to extend my Wi-Fi signal but only then to enable Ethernet on 2 devices. My Wi-Fi speeds have dropped and I’m wondering if it’s because of too many Wi-Fi signals in one house?
