Weird Characters and Very Slow Keyboard When waking iMac From Sleep

When waking my iMac late 2012 from sleep, I most get odd input characters (image below) and slow response from the keyboard. Sometimes, I hit just one key and it goes crazy auto filling for about the next 10 to 15 characters.

A restart solves the problem and I have discovered taking out batteries from my keyboard solves the problem as well. I have replaced the keyboard with no luck and I have tried all the suggestions from this thread:

Weird Characters and Very Slow Keyboard When waking iMac From Sleep

I have an imac from mid 2011 which does not have the problem but same OS version 10.13.3 and runs the same apps.

Anyone able to help please?

iMac, macOS High Sierra (10.13.3), 3.2 GHz i5, 24GB, GTX675M 1GB

Please reset the SMC 2-3 times back to back with all peripherals disconnected. Instructions are in How to reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support

In the event the SMC reset does not work restart in Safe Mode and then restart normally and re-test. Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac - Apple Support

Well I don't see anything on your report other than you are using Google Chrome which is a major RAM hog. I'd recommend using another browser such as Safari.

What I'd recommend is creating a new user account (call it TEST USER) and then try to replicate the problem there. If the problem persists then it's likely a keyboard issue and I'd recommend trying another keyboard. If the problem disappears in the new account then you know it's an issue with your normal user account.

Please let us know what you find.
