ADAT lightpipe and Intel iMac

Not sure if this is possible, but worth asking...

I want to make multi-channel digital audio connections (in and out) between my EZBUS digital mixer and an Intel iMac running Cubase SX3...

Will it work if I connect the EZBUS ADAT in/out directly to the 1/4" (digital optical) audio jacks on the Intel iMac? Do I need any additional software? Any idea where I can get the right cables?

Is there a resource on the internet that explains what I can and cannot connect to the iMac digital audio jacks?

Hi and welcome to Discussions,

prove me wrong but AFAIK ADAT uses another protocol for sending data then then SP/DIF which is what the optical jack on the iMac uses.
When that's correct than you will need more than appropriate cable but a converter for this.

The iMac's optical input carries optical S/PDIF, not ADAT. To use ADAT, you'll need an external Firewire interface.

If you still want to use the optical connections on the Mac, you can buy the cables at the Apple Store. The Belkin cable they sell at Apple comes with the required mini-TOSlink-to-TOSlink adapter.
