Native camera aspect ratio

I still can't understand why apple would not allow changing the native camera shooting aspect ratio from 4:3 to 16:9. We are now in XXI century when most displays are 16:9 or even wider, but for some reason all the iPhones so far, the iPhone X included, are still stuck in 4:3 aspect ratio.

I know you can crop photos to 16:9 AFTER taking them, or you can use a 3rd party app to set the camera to shoot in 16:9 format by default, but WHY should you need to do that?

I understand the camera sensor is physically designed to take 4:3 photos and that way you use all the pixels available, but still, there is a MAJOR DIFFERENCE between cropping the photo AFTER you take it and shooting it in 16:9 by default. I personally prefer to shoot in 16:9 the reason being you can actually see what's in the picture frame and don't need to worry you will have to crop someone's legs off the picture or some part of the landscape you'd like to keep. When I used to shoot in 4:3 format, like 10(!) years ago, I often ended up kind of frustrated when I had to cut out the lower or the upper part of the photo to see it then nicely on 16:9 display. Otherwise, the "ugly" black bars on both sides of the display spoil the view.

It really should be up to the user's personal preference whether you want to shoot in 4:3 or 16:9 format and apple should give you a choice rather than forcing the outdated 4:3 aspect ratio.

Most (all?) other smartphone manufacturers already let you shoot in 16:9 aspect ratio by default and it doesn't seem to be an issue, so... apple, are you LISTENING?
