Is there an option to remove the sign-in requirement?

I just got a new Imac and I did not have to enter any password with the previous one. I find it a waste of energy and time having to sign in anytime you start the computer. Living alone I do not see the point of such security and according to my experience with Mac there are times when the keyboard cannot connect.

I would be thankful if someone would let me know whether we still have this freedom.

Open the Users & Groups pane of System Preferences and enable automatic login. If you’re using FileVault or have linked your account to your iCloud password, you may need to turn these off.

Refer to "Automatic login" under "Login Options preferences" in Mac Help.

If the option is "greyed out" then it is not available. The most obvious explanation would be FileVault. Automatic login is not possible because nothing can occur until the disk is unlocked with its encryption key.
