iPod 6th Gen Battery Percentage

Hello,
I have an iPod 6 and apparently there is no option to show the battery percentage in numerals at the top-right corner of the screen. Am I missing something or is there really no option for that? :/
Thanks in advance

I've recently noticed that there is a widget for the battery percentage, that you can add to the screen to the left of the Home screen. You can also find this screen by swiping the Lock Screen to the right.

Go to the first Home screen and then swipe right to reveal the additional screen:

Drag this new screen upwards to reveal the Edit button. Tap on Edit:

Drag the Add Widgets screen list upwards to reveal the More Widgets list and tap on the batteries' + icon:

And here it is on the additional screen:

On the lock screen, swipe right to reveal the additional screen, complete with battery percentage indicator.

There is a way to add a battery widget to the widget screen. It's the same widget on the iPod Touch as for the iPhone and iPad (I know because I own multiples of all of them.). The thing is, it doesn't show up on the iPod Touch until you pair a Bluetooth device it. Every time I have to set up an iPod Touch for my kids the first thing I do it pair a keyboard or headphones to it so we can get the battery widget to display. The cool thing about it is that it also shows you the battery level of the Bluetooth device as well.

I'm not going into how to add the widget as other posts in here show you how. Just pair a Bluetooth device to the iPod Touch to get the widget to show up.

It works on two 6th generation iPod Touches I've tried, one running iOS 11.2.6 and the other 11.3, so yes, I am sure.

The question(s) then:

  1. are you sure that you have a 6th generation iPod Touch?
  2. is it running iOS 11.2 (minimum)? Don't simply assume, have you checked?
  3. have you dragged the More Widgets list upwards? Batteries may not be at the top of the list.

One more thing; does your iPod have a Loop button on the rear casing - it pops out when pressed and stays in when pressed again?

Really? 😕 - in a big way.

I find it hard to believe that one needs to Bluetooth the iPod before the battery percentage icon can be displayed. (I'm seeking further opinion about this.)

That's definitely dependant upon the other device:

  • my JBL Charge 3 does not supply a battery level indication to my iPod Touch
  • my Goji GTCONBN16 headphones (catchy name 😝 ) do not supply a battery level indication to my iPod Touch
  • but my JVC SP-AD60-H (equally not-easy-to-remember-name) does indicate its battery level to my iPod Touch

(Who comes up with these names?)

I've checked the above on both of my iPod Touches, both at iOS 11.3.1

Okay, so we just reset one of the 6th Gen iPod Touches right now, along with an iPhone 7, iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus and there is NO battery widget. To test things out we just paired different devices to the iPod and iPhones after resetting but before touching any other settings. Here are the results for the iPod Touch;

  • Logitech K380 Keyboard - No battery widget shows up.
  • Logitech K480 Keyboard - Battery widget pops up in the "Add More Widgets" section with percentage for both the iPod Touch and the keyboard.

The battery widget stays there even if we click "Forget This Device" in the Bluetooth settings. We then reset the iPod Touch again to factory default, verified there's no battery widget, and tried again with some headphones this time;

JLab BT Headphones - Battery widget pops up in the "Add More Widgets" section with percentage for both the iPod Touch and the headphones.

Once again, if we click "Forget This Device" in the Bluetooth settings the battery widget stays. Once again a 3rd reset, verified there's no battery widget, and we try another set on headphones;

SoundPeats BT Earbuds - Battery widget pops up in the "Add More Widgets" section with percentage for both the iPod Touch and the headphones.

So I can conclude the only way to get the battery widget to show up is to pair a Bluetooth device that sends battery information to the iPod Touch. Once it's paired, you can forget the device and the battery widget stays.

This is also the case on my iPhone 7, iPhone 8, or iPhone 8 Plus in which the battery widget only shows up when I pair a Bluetooth device that gives the battery status. Hope this helps.
