Can I recover an unsaved, deleted TextEdit document?

I'm just a little concerned, though, about you reporting the link I provided as being "greyed out". It 'works' just fine for me. Are you having any other problems with your computer?

Is there any reason why you haven't updated to 10.13.4? IMO, you SHOULD update!

It was likely greyed out because you had already assigned the maximum "helpful" points (which is two).

So, there is nothing wrong with your computer as far as that is concerned. And, since you could not find your document, you will need to recreate it - unfortunately.

AFAIK, the TextExit app does not automatically save documents in-work. You would either have to manually save it or when closing the app, respond to the warning that the document will be lost if you don't save it ... so, not sure how exactly you can "accidentally" delete it any other way.

If you did get the message to save and and choose to delete it, then you won't be able to undo that action as you had been warned. However, it may be possible that it could be recovered with a dedicated file recovery app.

The problem is that you never saved it, so I'd say it's probably not worth it, grit my teeth and recreate the document. However, some recovery apps do have a free scan option - you could run that to see if what you are looking for actually shows up as recoverable.

Edit: Searching for it will not be helpful; if a document was never saved, it will not be searchable.

There's a very useful tool in the App Store called 'EasyFind'

I'd like to suggest that you go to the App Store, find the App and install it.

Then, open EasyFind and search for ".txt" and see if it turns up trumps for you!
