Forwarding SMS to iPad if iPhone has died

Today was beautiful morning. As I woke up as usually I took my iPhone that was charging all night. But to my horror, I found out that it had no battery and while connected to charger. It has already 3 years and I had big battery problems (power lasting 1-2 hours). Fortunately I have MacBook and old iPad 3 with cellular so I took the SIM card from iPhone and put it in iPad. Everything was working okay, I have 3g getting imessages, but I cannot receive or sent SMS to other number that don't have iOS device. I want to ask if there is any possibility to receive SMS to iPad if i don't have any access to my dead iPhone (in iPad I have the same number, SIM card as in iPhone)?

VIN,iPad (3rd gen) Wi-Fi + Cellular, iOS 9.3.5

No, sorry. No possibility at all. An iPad is completely incapable of sending or receiving SMS/MMS texts without being paired with an iPhone. SMS and MMS requires a cellular telephone voice network connection, which no iPad has ever been capable of. Those messages use an unused portion of the cellular voice channel, not the internet.

I though so but wanted to ask. Thank you very much for an answer. It is time to buy a new iPhone then. By the way, do you know if it worth to buy iPhone 8 Plus over iPhone 7 Plus or the small upgrades are now worth it?

Tough for me to say. I’m on a nearly 2 year old iPhone 7 now and really like it. But when I update, I’ve always updated to the latest, so my next will either be an iPhone X or whatever comes out later this year. Since I update every ~2 years (since the original iPhone) I always buy the latest model available (and I’ve never regretted doing that).
