How do I move faders with greater precision?

It the depends on which fader or knob it is but the convention is:

• Hold down Control to get finer increments.
• How down Control - Shift to get the finest precision.

You need a controller with better precision (at least 10bit).

There are plenty of them out there nowadays but most use the Mackie (Emagic) protocol.

When using Control you need to first click and then press Control.

This is not going to work for the Mixer's volume fader though.

You can try it on the Gain plug-in gain parameter to see how it works.

I can, but I switch my mouse to high resolution, otherwise the movements have to be too minute and somewhat crampy. You could also lower the resolution of your screen (making hte faders taller), but that may not always be practical.

You could also lower the mouse and/or trackpad tracking speeds in System Preferences.

Pan is always 7 bits in logic and the only values available should be between -64 and 63.

Volume has plenty of additional precision under the hood but you need to control it from a different place than the Mixer.

You can try using the Automation Trim field.

1. Set the volume fader at -25dB.
2. Write an automation point on that track.

Now notice the difference when using the Trim field vs the Mixer fader.

You can also try using Smart Controls.

1. Map volume to one of the controls.
2. Use Shift in conjunction with the control to get finer increments.

Lastly you can use an external controller working at 10bits (1024 steps).

The mixer faders are already in "fine" mode - I can move them in increments of 0.1. Modifier keys make no difference.
