Export AOL based cloud email messages to iCloud mail?

Hi everyone,

Going a little insane 😕 with this problem and hoping that one of you might have a great solution (fingers crossed!).

My father has an AOL email account (free) that has recently stopped working on his Apple Mail application (latest version: High Sierra). I think it's a problem on AOL's side and have made a support request to them, as it's s free account I'm not expecting much help.

We can still access the AOL mail online (through the browser) and I would like to find a way to export messages within into iCloud - this way he can still access the archive of his old mails, which is very important to him. Ideally this archive needs to be exported with the original dates of receipt intact.

Any ideas? Many thanks in advance,

rimibar

No response from AOL (yet!). I managed to get it kind of working. It seems that the problem is with outbound (SMTP) emails, the account receives mails no problem but takes forever trying to send messages. It will timeout as well.

Like you, I tried to reset the password but this didn't work, instead I opted to mess about with the authentication settings. I did this by:

  1. Visiting AOL.co.uk | Breaking News, Sport, Features and Video
  2. Logging in
  3. Clicking on my Dad's username (top right) and selecting 'Account security', I then opted to "Allow apps that use less secure sign-in". I then tried to login again and this time it worked.

Unfortunately the problem, still isn't fixed properly - the timeouts on outbound email still happen...

I have suggested that he moves to iCloud email which, imho, is much more reliable!
