Webpage using significant energy / memory on Mac

Hello,

I'm continuing to get this alert at the top of Safari.

This webpage is using significant energy. Closing it may improve the responsiveness of your Mac.

How do I get rid of it?

I'm running macOS High Sierra on my MacBook Air. Version 10.13.4

Thank you,

Tim ***

If the above doesn't work, Safari/Preferences/Advanced - enable the Develop menu, then go there and Empty Caches. Quit/reopen Safari and test. Then try Safari/History/Show History and delete all history items. Quit/reopen Safari and test. You can also try try Safari/Clear History…. The down side is it clears all cookies. Doing this may cause some sites to no longer recognize your computer as one that has visited the web site. Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db and move it to the trash.

Go to Safari Preferences/Extensions and turn all extensions off. Test. If okay, turn the extensions on one by one until you figure out what extension is causing the problem.

If that doesn't work, try running this program in your normal user account , then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by etresoft, a frequent contributor. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. On the screen with Options, please open Options and check the bottom 2 boxes before running. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy Report” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown.

Actually, Activity Monitor used more resources in some areas, but since the issue is related to Safari, in my case it seems more specifically to be FB, that info wasn’t pertinent. My goal was to add info that might help someone solve this issue that’s affecting many people.

I’m not sure what your point is, but it seems it’s sarcasm, which is juvenile at bast.

Again, my goal was, and still is, to try to help find an answer to the OP's question. I tried to clarify for you that my problem is not related specifically to Safari, but to FB. Since Safari is the browser of my choice then it is relative to my issue and how it handles FB, or vice versa, whichever the case may be. I'm still confused as to what your original point is since several people in this thread have posted they use other browsers and have the same issue.

Again, you showed your lack of regard for the issue by trying to further criticize me for not reading the "millions of articles on the internet", that you have obviously read, which obviously make you qualified to criticize and judge others, rather than spend your energies on trying to help. Now, "that's logical, and not surprising at all" that you are probably just a keyboard warrior. If you take the time to google that you'll get over 3M hits, which is another topic you can troll for and can then boast that you have knowledge of.

Finally, I don't choose to participate in a flame war with you, so this is the last post I will make regarding this. If you have something helpful to say, I'm all ears.

"The subject complains about Safari and you are surprised most people reading it used Safari? What did you expect?"

Nowhere does Davidj92 say anything about being surprised most people use Safari. Nowhere. In point of fact, his most previous post was in regard to the Activity Monitor showing Safari as the highest usage. Perhaps you've misread what he wrote and now you can't back down. You jumped in here, offered nothing of value, misread and he's the child? Oy.

I use Dr. Cleaner also and have for a long time. This issue never came up previously so I don't think Dr. Cleaner is the problem. What I've found lately with this "significant energy" problem is that it's "creeping" in to my other web pages. It only came up when using FB, now it's on a number of other pages also. I've gone to using Firefox because the constant warning is annoying.

This is yet another example of the idiots at Apple adding functionality that we can no longer control. I liken it to when they took away the ability to control the amount of power we consume while on battery. When they took away the function to ignore touches on the trackpad while typing. I am getting sick and tired of this crap. APPLE get your **** together and fix this stuff.

I have the same issue with my iMac running OS High Sierra and Safari. When I called the Apple support line we spent 1-1/2 hours trying to resolve the issue to no avail. The tech finally gave up and said I should make an appointment at the Apple Store genius bar. I have searched for an appointment contact link or phone number but everything I do find only redirects back to the online support which was not helpful at all. I suppose I will have to physically travel to the Apple Store to make an appointment. Not a very efficient way of doing things Apple!

I came on here to see about the same issue. I have called Apple customer care several times, did all they suggested, and it never fixed the error (or the constant slow downs that this error message causes). I even went as far as to reset my computer to factory settings, and used my time machine back up as well. Didn't work.

I finally had to take it to the Apple store. All his checks came back that there was nothing wrong. As a matter of fact, it seemed that everyone I spoke to had "never seen that error". Ummmm.... obviously someone must have since 507 people have "the same question" just on this thread! My last option, according to the tech at the Genuis Bar was to have it diagnosed and that its probably a problem with the logic bar.

I have two problems with that answer - the first, being the most obvious - almost $500 to diagnose and fix it!! The computer is just 2 years old. We have purchased 8 Mac's since 2010 - all different types for different people in our family. They don't just "go bad" after 2 years.

My second problem is - I agree with the previous poster that this happened right after one of the updates earlier this year.

AND.... the bluetooth never connects properly with anything! Never did, but since it's something I only would use sporadically, I let it go.

Seriously, I hope someone from Apple Customer service is reading this because this is ridiculous and not the level of quality I expect from a Mac.
