PHOTOS app says "the original photo will be adjusted by -1,943 years.

Using the PHOTOS app with High Sierra when I try to change a photo's date in info the message says "the original photo will be adjusted by -1,943 years. I did the repair Photos Library process. What next?

The Info panel should not allow you to change the date and time directly. However, it will open the "Adjust Date & Time" dialog.

Is only the message "the original photo will be adjusted by -1,943 years" wrong, or is the date in the line "Adjusted" also wrong?

When entering the correct date, you have to type very quickly without any hesitation. As soon as you pause while typing the day or year, Photos will stop reading the digits and the date will be entered incorrectly. If Photos is reading the date incorrectly and computing a wrong date shift, restart the Mac.

A restart will briefly solve the issue but only for a few pics and then it flips out again.

I'm just going to put the correct date in the keyword section so at least I can find the pictures.

That is bad, especially, as you already repaired the library.

Try, if restarting in Safe Mode will help. It will clear some caches. Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac - Apple Support

Try to find out, if your current library is causing this. You can test this, by creating a new, empty library. Import a few scans. Can you adjust the date and time in the new library?

If even a new library does not help, test in a different user account. This will tell you, if the problem is system wide, or if preferences files in your current library are causing this. You can test in the Guest user account: Isolating an issue by using another user account

The "Adjust Date & Time" pane lets me change the date but when I click 'adjust' it goes to some ridiculous date like 1885. If I try again it drops back another hundred years or so. A restart will briefly solve the issue but only for a few pics and then it flips out again.

I'm just going to put the correct date in the keyword section so at least I can find the pictures.
