Bootcamp - Windows 10 - After sleep DisplayPort monitors not working

I have a MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017) and am in Windows 10.

Sometimes, when I get back to my workstation and it's gone to sleep, the two DisplayPort monitors (both Dell) appear to no longer be connected. They are both connected to Thunderbolt ports on the laptop. MonitorA also has its USB hub plugged into the laptop (using a USB->Thunderbolt adapter). My devices plugged into MonitorA's USB ports are still functional.

If I unplug MonitorB, MonitorA will be detected. and turn on. If I plug back MonitorB it won't be detected, unplugging MonitorA doesn't change anything at this point.

Rebooting with both monitors plugged in appears to work. Although it takes a few seconds for the OS to detect the monitors. All three monitors (the display on the laptop and two external) are listed as Generic PnP Monitor in the Device Manager.

I've read around that Thunderbolt doesn't support hot plugging in Windows for certain models, but this is a recent laptop so it should work no? I've made sure my drivers are updated and played around with which ports the monitors are plugged into.

Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the reply. The two monitors are not daisy-chained. Each has its own USBc-to-DP cables.

Had another weird behavior this morning. I had the laptop asleep, it was clean booted without any monitors connected. I plugged in both my monitors before waking the computer, I expected it not to detect either monitor. When it got to the Windows login screen, both monitors were detected and displaying content. As soon as I logged in, one of the monitors disconnected. I had to reboot.

Your 2017 model has a set of USBc ports. The 'personality' of these ports can be USB or TB, based on cabling and connectors.

I use a single Dell U2715 with a USBc-to-DP cable (no adapters), and it seems to work. I also use the USB3 hub on the monitor to connect a separate USBc-to-USB(B) which directly plugs into the monitor, and I have a iPhone and a USB3 Samsung T3 connected to the monitor.

Hot plugging is supported on 2014 and later models, but these never had a USBc/TB3 port, but a TB2 port, which is separate from a USB3 (not a USBc) port.

Are Monitor A and B in a DP daisy-chain?
