Mail not receiving some emails

Hi,

I've been having a problem for a few months and Ive tried looking everywhere for the solution - any help would be greatly appreciated.

I use Mail with a number of different email accounts via Imap, both personal and work. Most of these are Gmail business addresses, and I have them on my MacBook Pro and iPhone.

There is one address - the one I use most - which frequently stops receiving emails on my MacBook Pro. There is no rhyme or reason for this, it seems to be random and the emails are still received on my phone and on Gmail. If I close and restart the application, they are received again.

It happens about once or twice a day at the moment and I only notice when I haven't received an email for a while 😠. I can send emails from that address even when Im not receiving them (which leads to me chasing people for things they have already sent 😊).

Does anyone have a suggestion why this might be?

Thanks

Jamie

Thank you for trying those steps, Jamie. It's appreciated. Since this issue is still present, I have other steps to use to narrow this down.

Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac -- Test how it responds in safe mode. If there are no issues, reboot normally and test again in your own user account. Remember this when booting in safe mode: Limited graphics performance in OS X recovery or safe mode

How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac -- If the issue is also happening in safe mode, use this article to create and test another user account. This will demonstrate if the issue is isolated to your account, or if its system wide. You'll need to set up that one email account in this user to test.

Let me know what you discover when you're able.

Best regards.

Hey, Jamie.

I see that one of the business email accounts you use in the Mail application on your MacBook Pro stops sending you emails from the account. However, it works fine on your iPhone, and I'm happy to help.

If you can’t receive messages -- This article provides steps to use to get the account working on your MacBook Pro the same as on your iPhone.

Let me know how that goes.

Take care!

See this article View Mail activity on Mac - Apple Support

If it is a laptop connect with a charger and keep the Mac connected with high network speed , keep the lid open until all mails get downloaded and there is no mail activity in the bottom of mail side bar .Click on window on top menu bar > activity .

User uploaded file

You will see activity window will be empty .

User uploaded file

Note : This activity will always be shown in the mail application and it won't effect your sending or receiving mails as this is a part of IMAP account , suppose at the same time many mails are received the activity will always be shown as they are getting downloaded from the web mail server , also noticed if the mail account is deleted and once again configured the mail activity , will always be shown and the blue bar will load , you have to wait until all the mails get downloaded in the mail app .

Hi, Im afraid those steps didnt work. If I restart the application, then it does start working again but will then stop after a few hours. As mentioned it is random and very frustrating!

I have checked all other settings and they appear to be fine. If I open connection doctor this also shows no issue even when the emails aren't being pulled through.

One thing that might be linked is that my mailbox is permanently saying 'Downloading messages', up to a figure of 13,000 emails. However this has been the case for some time and pre-dates the issue I am experiencing now.

What else might be the issue?

Jamie
