its now 2018 and several updates later but suddenly right click doesn't work. Never had a problem before but going into support I see there has been problems way back. Have tried several suggestions but still not working.

The first reply that I saw was the one starting 'please do not duplicate questions' hence my comment. I wondered why so thought I would restart my machine to see if they were hiding somewhere. Went to drop down menu under apple symbol and found only first 4 items responded, sleep, restart and shut down wouldn't. Have shut down machine using power button and then restored power and after booting up right click and all items on drop down menu now work. Must remember in future to always try reboot before looking elsewhere. Thanks for your interest.

You may have to do this two or three times.
You asked what was essentially the same question at 10:41am and 11:37am. I answered the latter and no-one answered the former (probably hence your latter post).
I was simply pointing out that as volunteers, you can never be sure if someone is looking in with the expertise to answer.
Did you try the SMC reset?
As a secondary thought, have you taken a close look at the electronic products around your machine, especially if shielded by a thin dividing wall. Interference could be a cause. See these documents.
