I have a 8 year-old MacBook laptop. Is it possible to make it run like new

This thing don’t even like getting on the internet. It’s rediculous to have to buy a new computer every 4 years but that is the rate my household is at. I get attached to my old devices and I don’t get rid of them. Is there anything I can do to vamp them up without Overloading the Older processor.

Get more information about your computer. Go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window, then "About This Mac". Write down, or highlight and copy, what it says about "version"and report that here. Now continue to "More Info..." Copy and paste the information here, but omit the serial number and Hardware UUID (if present).

There may be all kinds of possibilities, including upgrading some hardware or seeing if there's something in particular slowing it down. We need to know more about the computer first though.

Hello Patrice,

If we have to assume you haven't already upgraded the machine, then you could replace the hard drive with an SSD and upgrade the RAM to the max. I don't know for sure what kind of machine you have, so I can't give you any more specific information.

However, you should be aware that other components in a machine can fail too. Putting a lot of money into an older machine is always a risk. The logic board could fail next month and then you have nothing.

An to tell the truth, the expectation is that you will replace your Mac at least every 3 years. Other devices should be replaced every 2 years. Again, you can push it longer, but you are going to have to be careful about it. New OS versions are designed for the latest machines. Putting new wine in old bottles will make your Mac run dog slow.
