Apple Pro Speakers

I read some of the discussions re using Apple Pro Speakers on newer iMacs, and it seems there is no available adapter that allows me to use the speakers on my new iMac (Intel, iSight). Now I would like to know if there is available, a wiring diagram of the Pro Apple speakers, and the possibility of attaching a new plug that will fit my new computer. I have done a lot of amateur radio electronics and am quite capable of performing the mechanics of soldering, etc. I just need to know the circuitry ie red and yellow goes to one speaker, blue and white to the other, and there are 2 more wires I am not sure of, plus a foil shield and a braided shield. I love these little round plastic speakers and was greatly impressed with the sound quality. I really want to kee them. Thanks for any help. paulhenry

paulhenry, Welcome to the discussion area!

The problem is not simply that the plug will not fit. The iMac G4 has a built-in digital amplifier that drives the Apple Pro speakers. The Apple Pro speakers themselves have no amplification.

There used to be an active device called iFire that allowed you to use those speakers with any computer that had FireWire. The iFire has been out of production for quite a while.

The best solution is to sell those speakers to an iMac G4 owner.

BTW, this is the discussion area for the iMac G5. Since you have an iMac Intel you will probably want to post future questions in the iMac Intel discussion area.

Thank you Duane -
I hate proprietary systems, but have no choice except deal with them. I was really impressed with the speakers, both in performance and appearance, so they will reside on a book shelf, and maybe one day get a new life. Sorry about being in the wrong place - at 77 maybe I should hang up the computer and concentrate on less demanding subjects. Age nurtures cynicism - I do apologize.
