I keep getting the same thing in anylitics myself. My screen in my vehicle popped up a message also that said “You are being tracked by a remote location. Turn off location settings and passengers do so as well” this freaked me out as i have had 4 devices in 6 months that have been hacked so i was thinking i had been hacked again and they were remotely tracking me. But no one will give me any answers on the Rhodes System and Ford told me i was being tracked and they had to be disabled all wifi access to my vehicle.

I have the same and no idea what this is. I know in iOS 11 apple introduced various in car features including the disabling of notifications. The notion was that the phone would detect when a user was in a vehicle. Apple should confirm or refute whether iOS analytics tracks vehicle usage as standard. Until then I would like to know if other iOS 11 users find the same entry in their analytics because I too am worried about hack / remote tracking of my location and travel habits.

I am not technical but I have location settings set to off for everything other than sos and findmyphone and WiFi is off yet the analytics entry reads like a prompt to switch on GPS, WiFi and BT, a measurement of travel duration and a prompt to disable GPS, WiFi and BT and collate the data to something called the Rhodes Vehicular Detection Histogram.

Simple question really; is this malicious or not?

I don’t have any specific knowlege of the Rhodes Vehicle Detection Latency Histogram but Rhodes are responsible for other types of smart phone based detection systems which use data from the various sensors in the phone to determine specific situations or objects in the surrounding environment. For example, one particular system can be used to detect the presence of a television in the room, identify if its on a broadcasted channel, which channel its on, whether the content is live or previously recorded or whether its likely to be streamed on demand content.

I would speculate that a smart phone based vehicular detection system might be used to determine the mode and frequency of travel of the user based on the speed of travel, location data, surrounding wireless devices or signals, bluetooth/wifi connectivity, duration of travel, device usage behaviour, charging status and so on.

iPhone’s analyse all of the above and much more in order to try and build an accurate personality and behaviour profile of the user so it can provide relevant and useful information to you. Knowing what vehicles you use at what times and for which particular destinations seems like relevant information for this purpose. Other possible applications of such data could include traffic anaylsis, estimated travel time prediction and as someone already mentioned, do not disturb while driving.

I doubt that that the log you posted is a result of anything malicious, i looks to me like its just showing the status of certain functionalities of your phone at a particular time. Those analytics logs are daily and begin at the same time every day and message entries appear at consistent intervals. I doubt that it is activating or deactivating your BT and wifi, rather its recording their power state or connectivity state at that particular time.

The data is not being collected for malicious purposes, it is tracking your every move and recording as much information as possible to determine your behaviour at any moment, but Apple says its to improve your experience. As with any collection of data though, it can be easily leveraged for malicious purposes should it fall into the wrong hands.

I don’t know much about the wording it, but I do know that my phone is being monitored by a professional agency, whether it is government or not I do not know. I am being tracked, followed, and Photos and documents with my phone are being altered. This phrase “RhodesCombinedDetectionLatencyHistogram“, Comes up quite often. So after reading the various posed with concern and suspicion of being trapped, and knowing that I am now, then I’m guessing it’s very likely that there’s an association some now. I just don’t speak computer Operating system jargon.

Unless someone has had extended physical access to your phone, this is not possible. If they have, restore your phone to factory settings. Do not use your back up. It is more likely that someone has gotten access to your Apple ID. Change your Apple ID password.

"RhodesCombinedDetectionLatencyHistogram" is related to Do Not Disturb While Driving. It is not nefarious.

But I tell you if fingerpointing had a fee all three companies would be broke. Unless your cellular provider is very different than mine, they don't fingerprint you. Apple doesn't store your fingerprints and you can chose not to use TouchID if it bothers you.

What do your tax dollars have to do with either your cellular provider or Apple? Your post doesn't make a lot of sense.

So I also am in question of who what and why these things are active on my device and used by the do not disturb feature is the best answer I have heard yet as for months now I have been questioning apple support my security app developer and my phone carrier for at least two months and get absolutely no answer. What in heck are you talking about. Apple is not tracking you. They are probably the only large company who is not tracking you.

Google tracks you if you use ANY Google app - gmail, Chrome browser, Google search, Google maps, Google Earth, Google Duo, Google Photos, Google Translate and so on. Even if you turn off permission to use your location. And, of course, Android phones. Your carrier tracks you and everyone with a cell phone (not just iPhones) AND provides that information to the government. Police track your car with scanners that read license plates and update a database in near real time. In some places they also track you personally with cameras and facial recognition. Repo trucks also scan license plates to find cars that are behind in payments, but they also send all of their scans to a different database that is accessible by police. Do you have any automatic toll payment tags? The agencies that issue them track you, and not just when you use a toll facility. There are sensors all along highways that read your tag code. Ostensibly to calculate and report travel times, but do they save that data? Apparently, as criminals have been caught using that data. This is only scratching the surface. You are always being tracked. Get used to it. And Apple should be the least of your concerns.
