The last CanoScan 8800F driver support offered by Canon was for OS X Yosemite. If you never downloaded this version of OS X via the Mac App Store, then it is gone for good, and there would be no means to backup your Mac, and then perform a clean install of OS X Yosemite.
Last summer's Canon Printer Drivers v3.4 for OS X, on the Apple downloads site, excludes the CanoScan 8800F scanner.
There are want and need expenditures. As no one but Hamrick's VueScan supports this scanner without Canon installed drivers, you are faced with a need expenditure — because your alternative is to spend considerably more on a new scanner that remains supported in High Sierra, or the opportunity cost of no scanner.
I have owned VueScan Pro for several years. It is frequently maintained, and because I thought ahead, purchased the Pro version, and have never paid more money for updates. I do not receive any compensation, or special consideration from Hamrick for a VueScan purchase recommendation.
