Anti Virus

I deleted my f-secure anti virus and was wondering do I really need a Anit Virus i hear so many peolpe saying no not needed. I found a rsk ware on f-secure see scren shot and if you think I need one whats the best for free? Avg free is this a good one along with Malwarebytes? Or is none of this needed because f-secure could not help me remove it this is what they told me

Hello,

Thank you for your reply. Security Suite does not uninstall programs from the device. Security Suite will remove harmful files that have been identified. Riskware is not necessarily harmful. Security Suite has simply identified a file on the device that could be hazardous if not watched carefully. For assistance with program removal please reach out to your device manufacturer or a local computer repair shop. If you have any further questions on Security Suite please feel free to reach back out to us. Thank you for contacting Spectrum.

Most long time posters recommend not using antivirus software or cleaning software such as CleanMyMac. I wouldn't install AVG as it can have an adverse effect on computer operation.

Reference that above suspicious, that could be a false positive.

No Anti-Virus software or so-called “cleaning” apps are needed or recommended for Mac OS. They can conflict with Mac's own built-in security. At best they will slow your Mac by using unnecessary resources and at worst will bork your entire system.

Malwarebytes is safe but I would only run it on demand and only if you suspect malware. I agree with Eric Root about AVG. It is known to flag false positives.

I suggest you use the program created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor. It will provide a snapshot of your system which we can analyze to possibly determine the cause of your problem. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. On the screen with Options, please open Options and check the bottom 2 boxes before running. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown.
