Question: why the option for adding people is grey for file sharing in iCloud drive

I have the latest MacOS Sierra installed in my iMac. I like to share the files in the folder of iCloud drive with my friend. When I clicked on the share option. It shows the options such as mail, reminders, notes, msg, sent to chat. but I can not add people. how to fix this problem? Thanks much

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

The iCloud Drive Share option is not available on macOS Sierra. It is only available on macOS High Sierra.

Gail - Thanks much for your answer. I searched on line to see whether I should update my Sierra to High Sierra. May want to wait for a couple of more months to see whether it is worthwhile to switch. Thanks again for your reply,

If you can trust the persons you share the documents with, not to destroy your work, yes. I would always keep a backup copy of the document before I share it and keep regular backup copies of the work of the contributors.

Only the people you invite will have access to the document, but they can still distribute a copy of this document.
