My iMac is running out of space so I deleted photos and had 40GB free. Now a month later it's <12GB. No photos have been added. The storage keeps shrinking as the day goes on. Any ideas?

I have an older iMac (2012) running 10.11.6. There is 8 GB of memory and the disk is 1 TB in size.

A month ago I realized that I was running out of storage so dumped a few thousand photos to finally get 40GB free space. However, since then I've not uploaded a single photo to my hard drive but the storage capacity keeps shrinking - as I check it throughout the day I'm losing space and don't have a clue why?? I have Time Machine backing it up through the day when I have the computer up and running. I often shut it down and take it offline when I'm not needing to use it. As of this moment I have 13.86 GB free.

My Pictures are currently using 585.76 GB on disk.

You can use Find Any File to look for storage hogs http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/index.php

Something here may help http://oldtoad.net/pondini.org/OSX/DiskSpace.html
