Apple Mail on my iMac shows Unread count after reading emails

Mac OS High Sierra 10.13.4 (17E199)

Apple Mail on my desktop shows an unread mail count for mail boxes that are fully read or empty.

Please advise.

I just wanted to +1 this. I have the same issue after purchasing and migrating to a new MacBook Pro (Touch Bar) 15"—also running 10.13.4. Even my smart folder which is set to only show unread mail not in junk will show read messages and I can't seem to get rid of them unless I filter the smart folder for unread messages only (which is redundant as I'm filtering a smart mailbox with the same rule twice to get it to work), but the badges still show unread messages that don't exist.
