I just got my first iPhone (6s) and it came with this little paper-clip-looking tool with no explanation. Searching here, I found out what it is. How is a sim card removal pin used and why?

Sim cards are designed to be removed. They contain your carriers settings as well as your service plan info and cell number.
If you ever want to change carriers, or the sim card fails, you would need to replace it with a different sim card.
There is no risk in removing it, but without a sim card, your phone would not have cell service.

The card would need to be removed if you wished to switch to a different cellular provider. Without the SIM card installed there would be no phone service.
Thank you - I found that info after I posted and I was not able to edit my question. The remaining question is WHY would I remove the card? What is the benefit or risk?
